Edge Hill University is a modern university founded in 2006, previously a college opened in 1885 as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women. Edge Hill is a campus-based university located in Ormskirk, Lancashire, around 35 minutes from the city of Liverpool.

The university has a strategic plan in place, which they aim to be complete by 2025, this includes providing an outstanding student experience, harnessing creativity, knowledge and commitment of staff members, building research capacity, strengthening links to employers and the region, establishing additional national and international partnerships to enrich the university and continue their measured investment into campus and facilities.

Edge Hill was named as Modern university of the year in 2022 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide and also University of the Year in the Educate North Awards in 2021. They hold the gold award within the teaching excellence framework, which is the highest grade within the framework.

The university has around 10,000 full time students, and has previously welcomed students from over 100 countries to their campus. They have two intakes in the academic year, their main intake for undergraduate and postgraduate in September, then a very small co-hort in January for postgraduate computing courses.
